April 2

Tyler Crotty, America's most famous yawning 13-year-old, ends up on Letterman tonight. This after Daryn Kagan at CNN apologised for the network's gaffe by offering to come on the show to do a "stupid human trick".

Last night, Dave had the Top Ten Questions You're Afraid to Ask Condoleezza Rice.

Paul Krugman in the Times, meanwhile, indicates that the 9/11-Richard Clarke-Condi Rice row isn't going to go away anytime soon for the administration.

While talking of TV, Jim Rutenberg writes about how criticism of Bush is working its way into mainstream programming, and what that might all mean through the summer.

Back in the real - ok, slightly more real - world of politics, the talk this week has been Kerry's fundraising efforts - how much he's gathered and how much of the 'other' anti-Bush expenditure is legal.

But Forbes reports that the Bush-Cheney team has held 138 fundraising events since June 17 last year, raising approximately $600,000 a day.

The Bush-Cheney team are ramping up their offensive against Kerry over taxes, sensing that he will be vulnerable on anything that portrays him as their favourite bogey-person, a "Massachusetts-tax-n-spend-liberal".

And it seems they're trying to get their retaliation in first, specifically targeting gas taxes, which promise to be a key indicator through the summer.

Kerry himself was headed to the hospital for shoulder surgery.

Bush, meanwhile, appeared at a $1.5m fundraiser in Washington DC.

A parade a liberal hotshots helped kick off the Air America radio network, with Al Franken's show ("The O'Franken Factor") wasting no time laying out the terms of engagement.

While we're on the air, Nancy Pelosi, interviewed on Neil Cavuto's show the other day came up with a nice comeback that slipped through the cracks.

"My favorite line in one of the songs we all sing, "Oh, beautiful for patriot's dream that sees beyond the years." I don't think that this administration is looking beyond the years. I think it's very shortsighted, very special interest and moneyed interest-oriented..."

Richard Clarke appeared on Meet The Press today, talking in some detail about his book and the charges it contains, which continue to dog the Bush administration.

He also called for all of his prior 9/11 testimony, memos and emails, and those of National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, to be made public.

Dr Rice is appearing on 60 Minutes at the moment.

As John Kerry said if Dr Rice can find time to appear on 60 Minutes, "she should find 60 minutes to speak to the commission under oath", the Bush campaign accused their opponent of "politicizing" the commission's work.

"John Kerry seeks to distract Americans from his own failed ideas for protecting America from future attacks,"
a spokesperson said.

His "... backward-looking approach would return us to the failed policies of treating terror as a law-enforcement matter.".

Finally, so that's why Fox News seems so fast....
