Nice breakdown here of the process behind the Bush 'bathroom' note....

And, if you're after a really good read for the weekend, there's a great piece in the latest issue of Fortune - the 75th anniversary special.

With the sort of wit and elegance you'd expect from her, Carol Loomis writes about her half-century at the magazine and some of the fascinating people she's interviewed.

After all the recent kerfuffle on redesigns and repackaging that various papers are wrestling with, the WSJ also revamps its weekend section tomorrow. Looks ok...

This seems a really cool idea; and AP is just the right organisation to launch it (looks like Reuters missed the boat) since they can leverage their subscriber network across all media platforms. Will be interesting to see how it plays out and what sort of revenues it might eventually generate, even if that is undoubtedly of lesser importance than making some kind of generational connection to readers.

The NYT starts charging next Monday for access to its columnists online. $49.95 a year (free if you already get home delivery) gives you Times Select , which actually isn't too bad; but the true value comes in access to the archive, as well as the various bolt-on extras they're planning.

ABC is giving over its entire prime-time schedule tonight, around Dubya's live presidential address, to the subject of preparedness, and the readiness or otherwise of the US to respond to a major disaster, natural or otherwise.

And talking of the Googlemonster, this is excellent. By the way, another $4bn sub-rights issue will fund a lot of Chinese investment. Lets see if this picture changes anytime therafter.

This and this are still pretty funny, though. Ok, enough nerdbaiting for one day.

Of course, the question is; how can they tell?

I came across this blog tonight randomly, and it's just a terrific read. The pictures make it all the better.

Finally, really - really - glad to hear our good friend BroadSheet is on the road to recovery. Many happy thoughts are with her.
