John Kerry gave an interview to the Washington Post saying that security for the US must take precedence over the promotion of democracy overseas; yet a competency argument against the current incumbent might not be enough in an environment of seemingly mounting dissatisfaction with the conduct of the war in Iraq.

As he seeks to define himself on foreign policy, however, Kerry may find himself haunted by Al Gore's speech the other day which pulled few punches in its calls for the resignations of the Defence Secretary and other top officials.

Yet, as Joe Klein put it on 'Meet the Press' today, though; even in calling for resignations, the Democrats manage to get it "dead wrong at every turn." "The president should be firing these people".

Meanwhile, with the public's attention on matters military this Memorial Day weekend, President Bush picked up the endorsement of the Rolling Thunder veterans' group.
