Nice piece by Walter Cronkite in the Denver Post recently.

Here's an extract:

"Now, of course, I am not accusing the attorney general of pulling out anyone's fingernails or burning people at the stake (at least I don't know of any such cases).
But one does get the sense these days that [Tomas de Torquemada's] spirit is comfortably at home in Ashcroft's Department of Justice."

Truly worrying.

Means to an end....

(From the San Francisco Chronicle)

"One thing that isn't likely to happen very soon is a new discussion of the sexual harassment charged that dogged Schwarzenegger in the final days of his campaign. Speaking on NBC last weekend, he said he would provide a more complete explanation of his actions after Tuesday's election day."

"But Schwarzenegger shrugged off a reporter's shouted request for that promised explanation at the end of Thursday's news conference."

"'Old news,' he said, as he walked briskly off the stage."

Nice interview with Al Franken in the Guardian on Friday.

Here's his take on having the Fox suit dismissed.

"You know how when people say someone was literally laughed out of court, they usually mean they were figuratively laughed out of court?" says Franken, 52, mixing evident satisfaction with a chuckle that sounds more like bewilderment. "They were literally laughed out of court."

Someone else must have been watching the CBS News after all.

You can see the hacker's full message here.

While there's something "King of Comedy"-esque about the whole hijacking business, the interesting thing is what this says about - regardless of your message - needing the wide circulation and implicit credibility of a major news site; as Cass Sunstein puts it, the general interest intermediary that delivers, in this case, a rogue message.
