This seems a really cool idea; and AP is just the right organisation to launch it (looks like Reuters missed the boat) since they can leverage their subscriber network across all media platforms. Will be interesting to see how it plays out and what sort of revenues it might eventually generate, even if that is undoubtedly of lesser importance than making some kind of generational connection to readers.

The NYT starts charging next Monday for access to its columnists online. $49.95 a year (free if you already get home delivery) gives you Times Select , which actually isn't too bad; but the true value comes in access to the archive, as well as the various bolt-on extras they're planning.

ABC is giving over its entire prime-time schedule tonight, around Dubya's live presidential address, to the subject of preparedness, and the readiness or otherwise of the US to respond to a major disaster, natural or otherwise.

Should be interesting.

But surely, surely, this falls under the category 'adding insult to injury'.....

Who's in charge of the post-Katrina reconstruction effort? Why Karl Rove, of course!

On the subject of Emperor Chimpy,....try this. Go here, type in the word "failure" and hit "I'm feeling lucky"....

And talking of the Googlemonster, this is excellent. By the way, another $4bn sub-rights issue will fund a lot of Chinese investment. Lets see if this picture changes anytime therafter.

This and this are still pretty funny, though. Ok, enough nerdbaiting for one day.

Of course, the question is; how can they tell?

I came across this blog tonight randomly, and it's just a terrific read. The pictures make it all the better.

Finally, really - really - glad to hear our good friend BroadSheet is on the road to recovery. Many happy thoughts are with her.

Screw the NYT. It's hard to imagine how they're expecting this to work out in their benefit -- here's an idea, make like Instapundit: free up the site, sell advertising. That fucker rakes up the cash.

Here's a raised glass to Broadsheet's health.
